Skenes Creek Short Term Coastal Adaptation Plan

The purpose of the Skenes Creek Short Term Coastal Adaptation Plan is to consider coastal hazard exposure and future adaptation needs for the coastal area, to inform current erosion mitigation needs for the western shoreline, and broader adaptation planning.

Our approach is following the direction of the Marine and Coastal Policy 2020 and Victoria’s Resilient Coast – Adapting for 2100+ framework and guidelines.

At Stage 5 we consider which adaptation actions/options are the most appropriate for managing coastal hazard risks at a project site.

Please watch the video below for more information on this project and the proposed adaptation pathway for this site.

Project Timeline and Approach

This project follows the 7 stages for coastal hazards adaptation and resilience planning as outlined in Victoria's Resilient Coast - Adapting for 2100+ framework.
  • Timeline item 1 - complete

Stage 1 Project scoping and preparation

    Completing in early 2025

  • Timeline item 2 - complete

Stage 2 - Values, vision and objectives

In stage 2 we seek to gather local knowledge that along with culture and environmental values will provide a foundation for confirming coastal values and objectives and feed into later stages of this project.

    Completed Mid 2025

  • Timeline item 3 - complete

Stage 3 - Coastal hazard exposure

In this stage we assess coastal hazard exposure for the study area, including hazard data / scenarios that enable best practice approaches to risk assessment and adaptation planning.

    Completed Mid 2025

  • Timeline item 4 - complete

Stage 4 - Vulnerability and risk

At this stage we explore place-based coastal hazard vulnerability and risk, to enable strategic consideration of adaptation needs/priorities.

    Completed Late 2025

  • Timeline item 5 - active

Stage 5 - Adaptation actions and pathways

At this stage we identify, assess, consult and decide on which adaptation options and actions are the most appropriate.

Stage 5 Adaptation Actions and Pathways, will focus on short term actions for the period 2025-2040. The Regional Coastal Adaptation Plan (RCAP) that will consider adaptation actions up to 2100.

    Currently at Stage 5

  • Timeline item 6 - incomplete

Stage 6 - Plan and implement

At this stage we confirm the action plan for coastal hazard risk management and adaptation and start implementation.

  • Timeline item 7 - incomplete

Stage 7 - Ongoing monitoring and review

At this stage we ensure coastal hazard risk management and adaptation is accompanied by an ongoing monitoring and review process.
