Estuary Working Group to Continue After Successful 12-Month Trial

24 November 2025

The Painkalac Creek Agency Working Group has decided to continue its operations following a review of the 12-month trial of its collaborative working group and online community hub model.

At its 11 November meeting, members unanimously agreed the approach has strengthened communication between agencies and the community and improved understanding of government roles in estuary management. The hub has also made it easier for residents to ask questions, raise concerns, and access up-to-date information about the estuary.

The success of the trial has prompted plans to expand the model to other communities who live alongside estuaries on the Great Ocean Road, giving more towns access to the same coordinated communication and problem-solving approach.

The working group will reconvene in early 2026 to map out the next stage of its work and outline how the model will be adapted for other locations. Community input will remain a key part of this process, with updates to be provided as planning progresses.

The Painkalac Community Hub will remain active and open to anyone wanting to view information or submit questions or concerns about the estuary.

The Painkalac Creek Community Estuary Day in October was a highlight of the 12-month working group and community hub trial.
